Bruce N. Eimer, Ph.D.

Dr. Eimer is an NRA Certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor and licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in teaching women to shoot, to fight, to stay safe, and to heal. He is certified as a Police Firearms Instructor by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) of the Pennsylvania State Police. In addition to being a Pennsylvania Certified Lethal Weapons Training Instructor, Dr. Eimer is a Pennsylvania Act 235 Certified Agent, and a Certified Glock Armorer. Dr. Eimer is the founder and owner of the popular Defensive Handguns Forum.

As a MPOETC Certified Police Firearms Instructor, Dr. Eimer qualifies retired police officers who are Pennsylvania residents to carry a concealed firearm under the Federal Law Enforcement Officers’ Safety Act (LEOSA), also known as H.R. 218. He is also an associate firearms instructor with Defense Training International and a staff firearms instructor at the Law Enforcement And Security Officers Training Academy in Philadelphia PA.

As a Pennsylvania and New Jersey Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Eimer practices police and security psychology (see www.Act235Testing.com) and has conducted thousands of psychological evaluations of security officers and law enforcement personnel to assess mental fitness to carry a firearm on the job. Dr. Eimer has also worked as a sub-contractor in the Federal Air Marshal’s program (FAM) providing pre-hiring psychological evaluations of FAM candidates. He has also provided counseling services to Philadelphia Police Officers through the Philadelphia Police Department’s Employee Assistance Program.

A life member of the NRA, Dr. Eimer is also a board certified Pennsylvania and New Jersey licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Eimer is the founder and CEO of Personal Defense Solutions, LLC , a firearms training company, and of the Behavior Therapy Center, P.C., a behavioral health practice. As a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, he has been helping women in Pennyslvania since 1983. He specializes in treating women with PTSD stemming from sexual, physical and emotional trauma.

As a professional firearms and personal defense instructor, Dr. Eimer specializes in teaching women how to shoot, and how to defend themselves verbally and physically, armed and unarmed, with firearms (handguns, shotguns and rifles), and with other weapons (e.g., edged weapons, pepper spray, makeshift weapons, etc.). His mission for over 29 years has been to help women stay safe. On a personal level, Dr. Eimer continues to be an avid student of defensive firearms (handgun, shotgun and rifle), edged weapons, and unarmed combatives.

Dr. Eimer has been practicing clinical and forensic psychology in Pennsylvania since 1986 as a licensed psychologist. He is Board Certified with the American Board of Professional Psychology in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology and is a Fellow with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He has taught numerous workshops to professionals in clinical hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Dr. Eimer is a Life Member of the American Psychological Association.

In addition to practicing clinical and police psychology, and providing professional firearms instruction to men and women, civilians and police and security personnel, Dr. Eimer has authored over seven books and numerous book chapters, magazine and journal articles. He is the author of ARMED: The Essential Guide to Concealed Carry published in 2012 by Krause Publications and Gun Digest Books, and the co-author of the Essential Guide to Handguns: Firearms Instruction for Personal Defense and Protection published in 2005 by Looseleaf Law Publications.

Dr. Eimer is also the author of Hynotize Yourself Out Of Pain Now! and Coping With Uncertainty: 10 Simple Solutions.

Since 2004, Dr. Eimer has been a column editor and regular contributor to Concealed Carry Magazine, the premier publication of the United States Concealed Carry Association, and he is the author of the Armed Senior Citizen column.

Through his company, Personal Defense Solutions, LLC, Dr. Eimer teaches firearm safety and concealed carry law classes that fulfill the training requirements for obtaining Florida, Virginia and Utah multi-state concealed carry firearm permits. He is also certified by the Utah Department of Public Safety and Bureau of Criminal Investigation as a Utah Concealed Firearms Instructor. Dr. Eimer provides basic, intermediate and advanced, personalized one-on-one defensive firearms and shooting instruction to qualified civilians and police and security officers. He specializes in teaching women to shoot and to fight.

Dr. Eimer has graduated from a number of well known shooting schools such as Sig Sauer Academy, Defense Training International, the Lethal Force Institute, the Massad Ayoob Group, and Thunder Ranch. He is a recognized expert on the judicious use of lethal and less than lethal force. He has testified in court on multiple occasions as an expert witness and has served as an expert witness in multiple civil and criminal cases.

Dr. Eimer has appeared as a guest on numerous radio programs around the country and has been interviewed by Fox and NBC TV News.
