Judicious Use Of Deadly Force

Judicious use of deadly forceWhen would the use of deadly force by a private citizen against another human be considered judicious, sensible, prudent, cautious, careful, justified, or well thought out? How can a private citizen be authorized to kill another human under his or her own summary judgment? The very simple answer is that deadly force is recognized as a last resort for when you need to use it to save your life. Here we are referring to the “doctrine of competing harms” and the “doctrine of necessity.” Put very simply, you are allowed to break the law (in this instance: kill), in the rare circumstances where following the law (i.e. not killing) would cause more injury to you or other innocent humans than would breaking it. In reality, the answer is not so simple. Any time you even draw your gun, you are walking on thin ice. If you are going to keep or carry a gun for self-defense, in addition to being well trained in marksmanship and tactics, you should be well educated about the circumstances under which the use of deadly force is warranted legally and morally, so that you can be judicious. If you own or carry a gun, you must be judicious. Read more »

Take Responsibility For Your Personal Safety

Take responsibility for your personal safety1. Who is ultimately responsible for protecting me and my loved ones?
We are all responsible for protecting ourselves — knowing that education is power and power is the first thing that the criminal intends to take away from you! The responsibility for acquiring knowledge of defensive measures lies strictly where it belongs and that is with you and your immediate family. Outsiders can be great communicators, but very often they do not and cannot share your own personal risk profile. Therefore, they cannot know the optimal protective measures for you and your family.

Statistically, urban dwellers are at much greater jeopardy of criminal assault than are suburban or rural dwellers. Senior citizens and women are more likely to be victims of violent crime than are young and middle aged men. Thus, no one should allow themselves be caught unaware and unprepared should the need to defend one’s self arise. Read more »

Refuse To Be A Victim

Refuse To Be A Victim“Senior Citizen Pulls Gun On Knife-Wielding Robber”
“A senior citizen using the men’s room yesterday at a popular Middletown eatery was approached by a would be robber waving a knife. The potential victim responded by pulling out his own weapon – a handgun. A thin, white male between 25 and 30 years old tried to rob the 68-yearold Langhorne man about 9:30 a.m…Middletown Sgt. Ken Mellus said. The Langhorne man is licensed to carry the gun, police said. No shots were fired and the suspect fled…”

Bucks County Courier Times. February 24, 2004

We can only speculate about the outcome had the intended victim been unarmed and unprepared. In this case, he was armed and hopefully prepared to use his handgun to defend himself if he had to. Fortunately, he didn’t have to. His would-be attacker probably decided that his would-be victim wasn’t going to be an easy target and wouldn’t be worth the trouble. Read more »

The Argument Against Gun Control Made Simple

Let’s make it simple.

Let’s say private ownership of guns is banned. As with prohibition in the 20’s, the firearms black market will flourish. Just look at today’s drug trade. Wack jobs and criminals will illegally buy their guns. Law abiding citizens will be disarmed. Either law enforcement will be overwhelmed or we will have a police state.

Truthfully their can be no dialogue between defenders of the Second Amendment and gun control ideologues. The latter want to force their views on everyone. Comply or risk being labelled negatively and jailed, fined or sanctioned in some way. That is not liberal, which means tolerant. That is fascist. More guns means less crime because murderous cowards are deterred by resolute armed citizens who will short circuit a wacko publicity seeker’s plans. Read more »
